Family Optometric Associates

Dr. Steven Chado graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1983, and has been practicing optometry in Maryland, Virginia, and California for the past 33 years. After working in a private practice, he founded Family Optometric Associates, P.C. in 1992. Since then, Dr. Chado has established Family Optometric Associates practices in Naval Exchanges in Oahu, Hawaii; San Diego, California; Norfolk, Virginia; and Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center; and in Army/Air Force Exchanges at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Dr. Chado resides with his wife, Dr. Beverly Chado, in Frederick, Maryland.

Ashley Sheidy

Ashley Sheidy, Chief of Operations

Ashley Sheidy grew up in Pennsylvania where she married her high-school sweetheart who is currently serving in the US Marine Corps. She moved to Quantico, VA in 2008 with her family and began working in our Stafford, VA office as an Optometric Technician. She moved to Norfolk, VA in 2011 and transferred to our Norfolk office where she became the office manager. In 2014, Ashley and her family moved to Okinawa, Japan where they spent three years enjoying the Japanese culture. In 2017, they re-located to San Diego, where Ashley was promoted to Practice Administrator for all 7 FOA offices nationwide. In 2020, Ashley moved cross country back to Norfolk, where she was promoted to Chief of Operations. Ashley is currently completing her Bachelor’s of Science degree at Norfolk State University and will then be headed to Optometry school. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and loving on her two Golden Retrievers.

Dr. Lewis Siegel, Medical Director

Lewis Siegel earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park Campus in 1985. In 1989, Siegel earned his medical degree from Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, graduating in 1989, after which he completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. After graduating from residency in 1993, Siegel joined Chesapeake Emergency Physicians, where he has worked ever since. He currently serves as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare and the Medical Director for the Emergency Department. Siegel initially became a co-Operational Medical Director for the Chesapeake Fire Department in 1994 and has continued in that role as the sole OMD for Chesapeake since 1995. In addition, he has been a member of the Board of Directors for Tidewater Emergency Medical Services since 2002 and currently serves as President of the TEMS Board. Siegel enjoys spending time with his family and two children, Chuck and Jackie, more than anything, but watching the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens comes in at a close second.

Family Optometric Associates provides primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations

This includes general eye examinations for correction of farsightedness, nearsightedness, presbyopia, and astigmatism. The doctors also diagnose, manage and treat diseases and disorders of the visual system. Thorough examinations of the external and internal structure of the eyes are performed to evaluate for many ocular conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disorders, and systemic disorders including hypertension and diabetes.

Dr.-Timothy-Edwards

Timothy Edwards, O.D.

Dr. Timothy Edwards graduated in 1979 from Towson State University, and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia (currently known as Salus University).  Dr. Edwards has been with Family Optometric Associates since February of 1994, and has been practicing in our Stafford location since December of 1995.  Dr. Edwards is licensed to practice optometry in Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C.  Dr. Edwards’s hometown is Churchville, Maryland.

We are saddened to report Dr. Edwards passed away suddenly December 12th, 2018. He is survived by his wife Nancy. Dr. Edwards was a friend, colleague, and classmate. He will be deeply missed by all his patients and our staff.
